The most damaging oil spills ever recorded.

Throughout history, the transportation of crude oil has presented problems. Oil tankers have been designed to not leak oil, even after suffering large amounts of hull damage. However, they still occur. The clean-up operation after a spill is a mammoth task, but it is made easier using Spill Kits like those from hydepark-environmental. Here are some of the worst spills that occurred at sea in history.

  1. The Odyssey. This was a tanker that literally snapped in half. It dumped some one hundred and thirty-three tonnes of oil about seven hundred miles off the coast of Nova Scotia. Rough seas meant the  Canadian coast guard had no way to get to the ship to try and stop the leak. Instead, the boat caught fire and took the spill with it.
  2. The Haven. This ship from Cyprus exploded just off the coast of Italy. The fire that raged had a slightly positive effect. The flames burned off the worst of the oil and stopped it from making landfall on the shores of the mainland. However, this was not the end of the story. Oil was soon found on the seabed of the Mediterranean. This shows that the effects of oil are long-lasting.

  1. The collision of the Atlantic Empress and the Aegean Captain in the Caribbean. A storm that brewed up caused the issue. It might seem complicated to accept that two large ships could collide, but the weather conditions were terrible, with no visibility. Many of the crew were killed. The tanker shed oil, but the explosion that occurred burnt most of the oil off.
