Cardboard Packaging Labelling Rules to Get Right
Complying with box label information is critical and will save you in the long run.
Handling and Fragile Symbols
These are recognised globally for handling and storage of packaging materials. As outlined in BS EN ISO 780, ‘Fragile’ and ‘This way up’ symbols need to be used in conjunction with ‘Keep dry’ symbols where applicable and not just a ‘handle with care’ message which can be ignored by carriers.
Recycling and Material Marks
Recycling symbols and material identification codes (such as material type or M factor) should be printed on all cardboard packaging dispatched and/or sold at retail. Does your brand’s guidelines, or that of your industry, include the Mobius loop or ‘tidy’ recycling logo? Check for your country-specific requirements.
Weight and Stacking Limits More on Cardboard Packaging can be found at https://capscases.co.uk/services-2/sustainable-cardboard-packaging/.
Highlight the maximum weight in kg for each layer and state the standard stack height using the relevant symbol. Failure to supply this type of information could result in your goods being damaged during transit and refuse claims later.
Retail Pack Legal Requirements
Details that are required for retail packs sold in different countries are: country of origin and an accurate description of the product in English. For certain products (food, cosmetics, electrical goods etc) there are additional mandatory details for retail packs sold in different countries, which are covered in the relevant product category legislation.
Extended Producer Responsibility Obligations
Do you supply over 25 tonnes of packaging a year? Check your packaging waste and recyclables for your Classify Obligations annually. For sustainable cardboard packaging options see Caps Cases.
Labelling your cardboard packaging from the start will ensure you are compliant and deliveries are not returned.
