Shopping online is the new convenience store

Shopping online is growing at a tremendous rate with more people switching on their computers or tablets instead of heading to the shops.

It’s not just consumers who are browsing the internet to get the best deals but businesses are too. More business to business deals are now being conducted online.

It’s so simple to browse different websites, find what you are looking for at the best price and order from anywhere in the world. You can do your weekly shopping online while on the train on your way home from work or book a holiday or a takeaway.

Ecommerce trend continues to soar

The trend for ecommerce looks set to grow even faster this year.

A report in Digital Marketing News says: “UK shoppers are to set to spend £52.2bn online in 2015, according to RetailMeNot, the company behind VoucherCodes.co.uk.” It adds that: Brits are also expected to shop online more often in 2015, making 21.2 purchases this year against an average of 18.8 in 2014.”

Companies such as Amazon and eBay have revolutionised the way we shop by offering branded goods at knockdown prices. For many people these are the first places they look when buying household goods, gifts or electronic items, for example.

This is huge business. So companies who do not have an online presence are really missing out.

The Centre for Retail Research backs this up by saying: “E-commerce is the fastest growing retail market in Europe.” It warns that the growth of online sales at such a rate will reduce the need for traditional shops.

Get an online presence to increase sales

All companies today need a website to act as their shop window 24/7. But it’s no good if people go to your website, like what you do but can’t buy there and then. In today’s fast-moving world, you could have lost a sale as many people will simply look for another similar company which lets them buy online.

If you run a business or are a freelancer who needs to get a greater presence, your website can act as your calling card. It will need to specify what you do with plenty of calls to action so the viewer can contact you or buy your products.

As well as your own website you need to get your sales out on the big ones such as eBay and Amazon, which are among the top worldwide online marketplaces.

For example, by using eBay templates your listings will stand out on eBay, therefore, increasing awareness and boosting sales. You will need to find the right eBay templates to suit your brand so choose carefully.

If you are new to ecommerce, or you are unsure what type of site to go for you may want to consult a web designer like Somerset web design agency Somersetwebservices, who can create eye-catching designs so people are drawn to you and not your competitors.

As more people turn to the internet and their mobiles to buy and sell goods, it is important for your business to be in on the action too.
