The anatomy of your back

The muscles and bones in your back play an incredibly important role in every movement that you make and they are equally susceptible to strains and tension that can occur from sitting down at a desk all day and from injuries. If you are having problems with your back it is always best to consult with a Chiropractor Dublin way to get the best treatment.

The spine is composed of 33 individual bones stacked one on top of the other. The key support for your body is provided by this spinal column, helping you to stand upright, bend, and twist while shielding the spinal cord from injury. A healthy spine is helped by solid muscles and bones, flexible tendons and ligaments, and sensitive nerves. Yet, pain may be caused by any of these mechanisms damaged by pressure, injury, or disease.

An adult spine has a normal S-shape curve when viewed from the side. There is a slight concave curve in the neck (cervical) and low back (lumbar) regions, and there is a gentle convex curve in the thoracic and sacral regions. The curves work to absorb shock, maintain equilibrium, and allow a range of motion across the spinal column, like a coiled spring.

The abdominal and back muscles support the natural curves of the spine. Healthy posture requires teaching the body to stand, walk, sit, and lie so that during movement or weight-bearing movements, the least amount of pressure is put on the spine. Excess body weight, poor muscles, and other forces can pull at the spines natural alignment and cause issues.
