Getting the Garden Ready for Spring

Spring is certainly in the air now and you may have noticed, whether you are a keen gardener or not, that your garden is starting to come to life once more.  There is a lot of work to be done in the garden at this time of the year. With everything starting to come to life at once it can seem like a lot of work, after a long, cold winter!

If you have a pond in your garden, keep an eye out for the return of the frogs and toads – you will start to notice their spawn around the pond edges and concealed under the plants. This will soon disappear and become tadpoles – always fun to watch as they swim around and grow rapidly during the Summer months. If you enjoy sitting in the garden during the Summer, a pond in the garden is a lovely addition to a garden. Even if you have a small garden, you can add a water feature to it. It is a fact that being near water is a relaxing experience.

If your garden is home to trees, you will notice that they are now coming out of their Winter slumber and are starting to fill their branches with green shoots and blossom. When it comes to plants, now is the time to get planting! If you are considering growing vegetables, you may want to add some raised beds to the garden – they are perfect for growing vegetables and are easy enough to make yourself. Plant Spring flowers in pots and tubs for an instant splash of colour to the garden, and do any jobs that you may have put off over Winter – repairs to fences, for example, or even a lick of paint to a garden bench will make the garden look fresh and ready for you to enjoy the long Summer days.
